Dr Suess Green Eggs And Ham and some Fun Facts

One of my latest creations is this green eggs and ham felt play food set.
It came about when I was thinking what other children's books I could make some felt play food based off.  My third son loves Dr Seuss and it has taken me 40 + years to really appreciate just how very clever his books are.  So here we have it.  The green ham is kind of gross but the eggs I love.

And now some awesomely interesting facts about Dr Seuss.

*'Green Eggs and Ham' book resulted after a Random House publisher bet Dr Seuss 50 bucks that he couldn't write an entertaining story using only 50 words. Well, he did and this book went on to become Dr. Seuss's most popular work and on of the worlds best selling children's books.

*'The Cat in the Hat' came about after a challenge to create a story using mo more than 225 words from a first grade vocabulary book.

* His real name was Theodor Seuss Geisel and he wasn't a doctor. Seuss was his mothers maiden name.

*His first book was rejected 27 times before finally being published.

* Dr Seuss wrote and illustrated 44 children's books.

* In his book 'If I Ran The Zoo', published in 1950 is the first recorded use of the word 'nerd'.

* 'Oh The Places You'll Go' was the last book published before Dr Seuss passed away. Each year it sells about 300 000 copies because so many people give it to college and high school graduates.
